The Moust Trap chain has been going around again. It's a morality tale about a mouse who "looked through a crack" in a wall at a farmer's house and made a huge stink over the sight of a mouse trap, expecting all the other farm animals to do something about it. The other animals all shrugged him off or said they were too powerless or busy to do anything. So, as a result, a snake came on the property and bit the farmer's wife, who got sick. So, they killed the chicken for soup, the cow for its beef and pig for its pork for a meal at her funeral when all the neighbors came. You get the idea, all the animals who didn't and couldn't get rid of the ugly mouse trap, got killed, and the mouse survived only because? I don't know, especially with a snake on the property. Snakes eat mice!

The story is supposed to be a lesson about sticking together and caring for the least among you because you'll be next to die if you can't do anything to help every squeaky mouse.

What's annoying is that chains like this flourish on lists which are supposed to combat animal rights extremism. Yes, we're supposed to stick together to protect our rights, but we don't need chain mail telling us to.

Here's a great discussion about this story on the snopes message board.

You can see how full of holes and laughable this chain is when looking at it realistically instead of through Disneyesque glasses.
